Ingredients You’ll Need:
  • 1 ½ cups oat flour (or blended rolled oats)
  • ½ cup natural peanut butter (unsweetened, xylitol-free)
  • ½ cup fresh blueberries (or dried, unsweetened)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed (optional, for extra fiber and omega-3s)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (supports digestion and adds flavor)
Step-by-Step Instructions: How to Make These Chewy Delights
Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients
Before diving in, gather all your ingredients and ensure your peanut butter is smooth and stir-able. If it's too thick, microwave it for about 10 seconds to make mixing easier.
For the oat flour, you can either buy pre-made oat flour or simply blend rolled oats in a food processor until fine.If using fresh blueberries, wash and pat them dry to remove excess moisture. If using dried blueberries, ensure they are unsweetened and free of added preservatives.
Step 2: Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine oat flour, ground flaxseed, and cinnamon. Stir well to distribute the ingredients evenly.
Next, add peanut butter, applesauce, and honey to the dry mixture. Stir until a thick dough starts to form. Finally, gently fold in the blueberries, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. If the dough feels too dry, add a splash of water to bring it together.

Step 3: Shape Into Chew Sticks
Place the dough on a clean, flat surface. Use your hands or a rolling pin to flatten it to about ½-inch thickness. Cut the dough into long, stick-like shapes, about ½-inch wide and 4-5 inches long. If your pup prefers bite-sized treats, you can cut them into small squares or rounds instead.

Step 4: Set and Firm
Since this is a no-bake recipe, the chew sticks need time to firm up. Place them on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours. This helps the ingredients set and makes the chew sticks hold their shape. For a firmer, longer-lasting chew, you can also freeze them for about 30 minutes before serving.

Serving and Storage Tips

  • These treats can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • For longer storage, freeze them for up to three months—just thaw before serving.
  • Always monitor your dog while they enjoy chewy treats to ensure safe eating.

Customizing the Recipe for Your Dog’s Preferences
One of the best things about making homemade dog treats is the ability to customize
them to fit your pup’s taste and dietary needs. Here are some ways you can modify this recipe.
  • Add Pumpkin Puree – Swap applesauce for pure pumpkin to add fiber and a delicious fall-inspired flavor. Check out these Blueberry Pumpkin and Oatmeal Chews for Dogs for another great pumpkin-blueberry combo.
  • Boost Protein with Greek Yogurt – Replace applesauce with plain Greek yogurt for extra protein and probiotics.
  • Use Coconut Flour – If your pup is sensitive to oats, try using coconut flour instead. Just note that coconut flour is more absorbent, so you may need to adjust the wet ingredients.
  • Make It Crunchy – If your dog prefers crunchier treats, bake them at 325°F for 15-20 minutes instead of chilling them.
